Squids have three hearts. The first two help it move in the water, while the third starts beating when it is out of the water, while the first two temporarily rest. The squid can live outside as long as the humidity of the environment around it favors it. This is exactly what the artist wanted to express in this painting, paralleling it with the time of the pandemic and the fear that never goes away.
