The Olive Grove

In this canvas we notice a land cultivated with olive trees, typical Mediterranean trees, near Berat. The angle of view chosen by the artist suggests a balanced compositional solution – the sloping ground plane is broken by the horizontal line of the mountain in the bottom plane. In the center we see the trees which appear with strong chromatic contrast under the sunlight of a spring morning. The color of the grass harmonizes nicely with the ochres and browns of the freshly tilled earth, to continue with lighter ranges to cool mountain blues which give this work a sense of air and depth. Throwing the elements in the foreground in sketch form – the support sticks for the young shoots – does not distract attention from the main subject: the olive tree.
