Part of the noble Kastrioti family, taken hostage at a young age by the Ottoman, Skanderbeg was educated, trained in the Ottoman service for 20 years. He rose quickly, gaining the Ottomans’ trust. But he never forgot his roots. Despite being a guvernor, he gathered his army and deserted the Ottomans and raised the Albanian flag in Kruja for the first time, making it an Albanian territory. He is shown so courageous in this portrait, with strong features, visionary and patriotic.
